FlashFile audio tools — convert, compress and trim audio in your browser

Editing and converting audio without installing software

Most everyday audio jobs are small: turning a voice memo into an MP3 that plays everywhere, trimming a ringtone, making a podcast file smaller for email, joining two recordings, or making a quiet clip louder. Installing a full audio editor for tasks like these is overkill, and uploading personal recordings to an online service is not always comfortable.

FlashFile’s audio tools run entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API and an MP3 encoder written in JavaScript. Your recordings are decoded, edited and saved on your own device and are never uploaded to a server.

Common uses

Converting formats

Switch between MP3, WAV and M4A so your audio plays on any device or meets an upload requirement.

Trimming and joining

Cut out silence or mistakes, make ringtones, and merge several clips into one file.

Adjusting sound

Change the volume, speed up or slow down playback, and add smooth fades.

Shrinking files

Compress MP3s for email, messaging apps and websites.

MP3, WAV and M4A in a nutshell

MP3 is a compressed, lossy format that plays on practically everything. WAV is uncompressed: perfect quality, but large files, and ideal for editing. M4A usually contains AAC audio, used by iPhones and Apple apps, and offers good quality at small sizes.

Why many tools export WAV

Editing tools such as the cutter, volume, speed and fade tools save the result as WAV so that no additional compression is added. If you need a smaller file afterwards, convert it with WAV to MP3.

Private by design

Your audio files are processed locally in your browser whenever supported. Files are not uploaded to our servers, not stored, and never sent to third-party APIs.
